The Founding Fathers were men of vision and discernment. They knew that in the face of another war with England or anyone else, the Articles of Confederation were not sufficient to compel the states to work together in the nation’s defense.

By all accounts, the Constitutional Convention was a big fight among the delegates. If you look closely at the arguments and positions, it eerily reminds you of fights in Congress today.

But they finally hammered out the Constitution as a huge compromise. It’s clear that most of them weren’t very happy with it, but they knew it was the best framework they could put together. As a group, they decided to keep their personal feelings to themselves and determined to present a united front to the people so it would be ratified by the States.

It must have been scary, and a real roller-coaster ride, but this work started the United States on a path that made it the superpower it is today.
